Complex female characters
The ones I wish I had by my side when I didn’t know who I was. I grasp a reflection of my mind when I see their eyes, it makes me want to talk about the things that can’t be said. They are a threat to those who are not able to see beyond their own belief system and for that, they are likely to remain silent for longer than they would like.
The inevitable thing, though, is that this kind of mind is unstoppable, because even when they aim to ignore the situation, their eyes fight. They always fight for everything that is far from being natural and human, and I love that. That’s me every day, sometimes without choice; like a thunder inside that knows when to explode.
Then I have two possibilities: create an uncomfortable space or just live in my head. I tend to opt for the second option, but sometimes that causes the balance between happiness and conviction to waver, and then I’m not sure what to think. However, what I do know is that happiness coexists with many other feelings and that talking about the things that no one wants to listen to is important; how else are we going to move forward?
Watching Sex Education felt as if someone traveled to the past and said to my younger self “I understand you so much”. It made me think particularly of all those complex female minds like Maeve, with so much life lived and so much to say… (and, of course, the wonderful masculinity that is portrayed. They are part of the conversation in such an inherent way).
Fierce minds need people that genuinely hug their thoughts. Life is less hard and words come out easier to the world. To all the Maeve’s out there, I understand you so much.
